Interview with The producer Eric Terdjman

Why creating and producing music alone?

I began music by beeing a guitar player in rock and funk music band like Bodyfly, and Eclyptics. Then after I became a music composer in 2001 after 3 year of music production. I started to record with a simpler mini disc device and an Akai sampler. I choose to produce alone because I feel more free in the music creation and also I permits me to give to my audience something original.

How did You come to the idea of recording an Electronic Jazz music album?

This album is the result of many years of music practice and thoughts... As an artist I didn't found my way easily because I am open minded and I enjoy creating all kind of music. Music is a real passion! I had to experiment many music style to find my own style. Electronic Jazz is the best combination for me because it's contemporary music with a lot of eclectics possibilties.

Can you define Electronic Jazz ?

It's a melt of drum loop (electronic music) that I created melt with real guitare, basse, and keyboard. I don't produce only electronic music because I need to give a true music touch to what I produce. I say jazz because I created jazz guitar melody, and also with saxophone and trompet. Sometime it sounds also funky music. It's a kind of free style jazz with an electronic background. I was mainly interested by jazz music, because I grew up in this music environment : my brother is a jazz keyboard player and also because of my friends.

Why Electronic Jazz music?

It's for me the new path of the Jazz Music : Artist that creates and produces alone with no stress and for music only. Jazz music correspond to my way of thinking in music. Also because it's more free than the traditionnal Jazz, with a lot of music fusion.

Who composed the music?

I have composed all music in this Rebirth Album. I also performed all instruments. It's not easy to create and combine all these things. I just build my first own music album.

How did You produced "Rebirth " and why this Album title?

I produced this music album in my home studio in Israel Jerusalem. Creating the music took me many years. It's a part of my past music history that I recorded with the new music tools I have now. Some of these songs were played by me and my friend when I was 18. That's why I called this music album Rebirth : because I found myself in my music past. It's the revival of old music melody combined with electronic stuff. I also have created 6 songs especially for this album. The second reason is that I became accomplished as an artist composer by doing this album : It's the beginning of a new life as a musician living outside his own country (France). It's a true symbole!

Why no cover songs in your Rebirth Album?

I am not a cover song artist. I know a lot of people enjoy to make money, or who would enjoy to become famous because of others musics. It's not my way.

I enjoy only beeing recognized for my personnal work.

For a first music album I prefered not to included cover song.
